The Role of the DSPPPPA in Protecting Property Owners in Delta State

The Delta State Public and Private Properties Protection Agency — commonly known as the DSPPPPA — is a statutory body created by the Delta State Public and Private Properties Protection Law of 2018. Its core mandate is to protect property rights, enforce state land laws, and prevent illegal activities on both government-owned and privately held lands across the 25 local government areas of Delta State.

One of the agency's most visible functions is enforcement — the investigation and physical response to reported violations of property rights. When a property owner reports illegal trespass, forced occupation, or the destruction of boundary structures, DSPPPPA officers are empowered to visit the site, caution offenders, and initiate prosecution where necessary. The agency works closely with the Nigeria Police Force, the State Ministry of Lands, and the State Attorney-General's office.

This has proved to be an effective and cost-efficient way to resolve boundary disputes, landlord-tenant conflicts, and family property disagreements.
